The opening day of the Rotterdam P1 2025 unfortunately did not bring any victories for the Dutch players. All pairs with a wildcard in the main draw had to bow to their opponents.

Exciting battle for Prins & De Kroon

The Dutch duo Julian Prins and Youp de Kroon came close to an upset against C. Gutiérrez & R. Nuñez. After taking the first set 6-3, the Argentinians turned the match around and claimed victory with 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Other results

For the other Dutch pairs the gap was bigger:

  • Sten Richters & Thijs Roper lost to F. Dominguez & J. Martinez: 0-6, 2-6.

  • Bart van Opstal & Menno Nolten put up more of a fight in the second set, but fell 1-6, 5-7 against F. Mouriño & R. Valenzuela.

  • In the women’s draw, Steffie Weterings & Marcella Koek were unable to find their rhythm against P. Martínez Fortun & J. Montes Cabruja, losing 2-6, 2-6.

Closing the gap

Although no Dutch players advanced to the next round, Prins and De Kroon showed that the gap with the international top level is gradually narrowing. Their performance in Rotterdam was a valuable experience for the further development of Dutch padel.
