First Round of EY NK Padel Delivers Spectacle and Thrilling Three-Set Matches
Jorrit Notenboom and Moos Sporken had to dig deep against Bart van Kampen and Ole Oosterom. After a thrilling battle, they eventually emerged victorious: 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
Nikander Damianos and Tygho Schoonus got off to a strong start and did not let Jort Nolten and Quintin Vos surprise them. They secured a convincing win with 6-2, 7-6, comfortably advancing to the next round.
Fourth-seeded Thijs Roper and Yannick Verwarter faced a tougher challenge against Merlijn de Krom and Roman Wink. However, after a grueling three-setter, they managed to seal the victory: 3-6, 6-7, 7-6.
Noah Cecchi and Marijn Prins also played a nail-biting match against former Dutch champion Uriël Maarsen and Julio Pulido Alegre. Once again, a decisive set was needed, with Cecchi and Prins claiming the win: 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
Strong Start for the Women’s Draw
The first round of the women’s tournament also saw action, with the favorites living up to expectations.
Tessa Nikkelen and Laura Rijkers played a tense match against Gemma Garcia and Merel van Houten. After three sets, they managed to secure the win: 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Marielle Hoekman and Christine de Kroon had little trouble against Claire Lablans and Moesha van Leeuwen, claiming a convincing victory: 7-5, 6-2.
Maaike Betz and Avalon Segou Jonker were dominant in their match against Roos de Boer and Sara Huveneers. With a 6-2, 6-0 scoreline, they left no doubt about their ambitions in the tournament.
Top seeds Marcella Koek and Steffie Weterings proved their status by decisively defeating Quinty Finkenflügel and Robyn Schoonus: 6-0, 6-1.
